Christchurch & Wellington

Christchurch - what a lovely city.  Our first excursion was to a home to see their amazing garden.  The flowers were stunning, one of the most lovely flower gardens I have seen at a private residence.  The owners had us for tea and breakfast snacks.  It was interesting to hear their personal earthquake experience - their beautiful stained glass windows survived, but their chimney crumbled.  Other houses in the area had the same experience with their chimneys.

The excursion then was to continue with a cable car tour of the town.  Being the Divas that we are, we decided to ditch the cable car and tour the city on our own.  After all, Divas are rather resourceful with their city maps and their keen sense of shopping.   We walked, we shopped and we ate.  The perfect Diva day.  We had lunch at an upscale restaurant "Suede" -- fantastic lunch!  We found a great shop in the city Art Space - handcrafted sweaters out of New Zealand wool, ladies who hand spun and dyed their own silk.  Just the most beautiful things.

After we returned to the ship, the Divas once again had a jammie party/dinner -- food just somehow tastes better when served by our butler, in our jammies all comfy.

Today we ditched the excursion all together and set out to explore Wellington on our own.  We celebrated Barbara's birthday all day long.  We found some great shops while strolling the streets of Wellington.  Lunch at an Irish Pub (chicken, cranberry and brie sandwiches!), then more shopping!  The remainder of the night is described in the blog below entitled Happy Birthday Diva Barbara!

Enjoy a few photos from the past two days.  The scenery in New Zealand is amazing.  The people seem so relaxed and carefree.  Perhaps that is how you become when you are surrounded by such beauty.  The sunrises and sunsets from the ship are just breathtaking.

Sunrise - coming into Christchurch

No words can truly describe how beautiful this sunset is...

Double lighthouses - Now that is pretty cool.... (sailing out of Wellington,
beginning the journey to Napier)
